Whether brides choose to have their gown made to measure or buy their wedding gown off the rack, there are two important decisions to consider. It is important to choose the right Couturier and use the right Bridal fabric.
COUTURIERS
There are many bridal dressmakers to choose from. The Couturier should be able to make you feel comfortable as wedding gowns take months to design and produce. Referrals are the best way for brides to find a professional dressmaker. Brides can also get a good idea of the Couturiers' design and workmanship by viewing gowns made by the dressmaker in the past. Each have their own style and technique, but the best Couturiers are able to listen to the brides ideas and vision and design a wedding gown best suited for the bride.
BRIDAL FABRICS
The choice of wedding fabrics is wide. The wedding gown is one of the most precious dress a bride will ever own so it is important to make the right decision when choosing the bridal fabric. Factors such as quality, color, texture, weave, weight and wearabilty all need to be considered.
Silk
Dupion silk is available in a wide range of colors and hence is popular for bridal gowns. It is identified by the lumpy horizontal lines within the weave. Dupion is great for fitted bodices and holds beading well. It can be crushed and handwashed to soften it.
Thai Silk is a super fine silk similar in feel and weight to dupion. It is smoother and there are no lumps. It is more expensive than Dupion, but the quality is superior and the colours quite remarkable. It can be used for full ballroom skirts and A line skirts.
Lace
French Lace is regarded as the finest and most exquisite lace in the world. It is usually a floral pattern and has a scalloped border on the edges. There are beautiful and luxurious laces also produced form Asia,Taiwan,Korea and Italy.
Satin
Satin, with its glossy look and feel, is one of the most popular fabric used in wedding gowns. There are many different types of satin depending on the weave and fibre used. Examples include Duchess satin and Crepe satin
Georgette
Is a lightweight sheer fabric made of either silk or polyester and is very soft and delicate in texture
Organza
Is a stiff sheer fabric and can be made from silk, nylon or polyester. It can handle embroidery and beading well
Beaded/Embroidered
Beaded fabrics come in many styles and can cost alot depending on the quality of beads and quality of base fabric. Beaded embroidered silk fabrics tend to be more expensive but look quite elegant.
