One of the important and exciting moments in the wedding preparation for brides and grooms is the choosing of their wedding cake. The wedding cake is served to the guests during the reception.  The cake can be single or multi-layered (tiered) and is normally decorated with icing.  The cake is occasionally topped with a small statue representing the couple.

THEME

The cake motif depends on the couples wedding theme.  Some brides coordinate the cake with the wedding favors, wedding ring pillow and wedding reception theme.  Examples of cake motif include rose, beach and oriental. They can be decorated with chocolate flowers,hearts or angels. The inside of your wedding cake may be made of moist mouth watering mud cake or delicious fruit cake.

TRADITION

The tradition of the wedding cake dates back to Roman times. Traditionally the first cut of the cake is performed by the bride and groom together with a ceremonial knife. The bride and groom feed the first bites of this cake to each other symbolizing their union. Guests are then served the cake and portions may be taken home to family and friends who missed the ceremony.

WEDDING CAKE STATUE

Occasionally the wedding cake is finished with a statue. The small model statue sits on top of the cake and represents the bride and groom in formal wedding attire. Wedding figures can be created from edible sugar paste or clay and can be customized to look very similar to the wedding couple. Other common motifs used in wedding cakes include gold rings, doves and horseshoes which symbolise goodluck and prosperity.
